Sutz-Lattringen. Location of the site © Archäologischer Dienst des Kantons Bern

  Sutz Lattrigen  |     Rütte

Short Description
The site of Rütte-Gut has been known since the beginnings of Pile Dwelling Research. Located at a precarious spot in the shallow water near the shore, the prehistoric remains on the lake’s floor are exposed to the destructive forces of strong waves. In 2020, new barriers were erected, that will hopefully protect the site and its treasures for future times. The settlement at Sutz-Rütte produced numerous well-preserved artefacts that date to the Neolithic, such as pottery vessels, wooden tableware, a piece of fishing netting, weaving weights of unburnt clay, a 4750 year-old shoe made of bast, as well as several stone and wooden tools, foodstuffs and animal bones.

More information about the site are available on the website of the Historisches Lexikon der Schweiz / Dictionnaire historique de la Suisse
