Exhibition: UNESCO Pfahlbauten und der Biber im Inkwilersee

Pächterhaus Museum Blumenstein Solothurn

Blumensteinweg 12, 4500 Solothurn

The UNESCO archaeological site in Inkwil Lake, on the border between the cantons of Bern and Solothurn, was under threat from beavers: to create their passages from the water to the island, the animals burrowed through prehistoric archaeological layers and timber. Since December 2025, the site has been protected from beavers and will remain preserved in the ground for future generations.

The special exhibition offers insights into the pile-dwelling village on the large island during the Neolithic period (around 3900 BC) and the Late Bronze Age (around 1000 BC). Visitors can also learn more about the conservation project for the UNESCO site and the beaver’s way of life.
