Experimental: What does Stone Age beer taste like?
Aula Wilhelm-Gebäude
Hofstrasse 22, 6300 Zug
Talk and beer brewing in the museum garden
Ulrich Bähr from the ‘Stone Age Beer’ working group of the Fürstenfeldbrück Historical Society (Germany) will give a richly illustrated talk on the origins of brewing, from Anatolia to Central Europe, and explain the archaeological evidence and experiments relating to it. Afterwards, brewing will take place in the museum garden using Stone Age methods – with fire, hot stones and malt. You can watch the process and ask questions. By the end of the afternoon, a non-alcoholic brew will have been produced, which can be left to ferment further into beer.
As a special highlight, the expert will bring along a sample of a brew that has already been fermented – with a taste quite different from today’s beer. Come and be surprised! There will also be tarte flambée from the clay oven.
Admission is free.
No registration is required.
